Experience Points, or EXP, are a system that drives the advancement of players in the game. All Disciples of War, Magic, the Hand, the Land, and even Chocobo Companions receive EXP for a wide variety of activities. Upon reaching a certain threshold, players advance by one Level. Upon reaching Level 90 in a class (or in the case of Blue Mage, Level 70), players will no longer earn further EXP from any activities. Various ways to boost EXP gain are also available to players, as well as several one-time sources of EXP.

Sources of EXP
Entering
Players can enter the Forbidden Lands, by speaking to the NPC Rodney in Kugane (X:8.5 Y:14.2). If entering as a party, the leader must speak to the NPC.
* When registering to enter, all party members must be in Kugane.

Disciples of War and Magic
Party Play
Unlike other instanced areas, Eureka allows the use of party functions such as inviting party members, disbanding the party, and leaving the party without exiting Eureka. You may use the Adventurer List to seek out players close in elemental level to form parties and explore Eureka together. It is also possible to change your online status to "Looking for Party."

Disciples of War and Magic earn their EXP primarily through combat activity, such as defeating enemies, participating in FATEs, and completing dungeons. The following is a non-exhaustive list of activities that grant EXP to Disciples of War and Magic:
* Please note that if you enter Eureka as a member of a party, even if you leave it while within Eureka, you will be returned to the party upon exiting Eureka.

* Defeating Enemies
Cooperating with other adventurers
** Note: as of Patch 6.0, enemies inside dungeons no longer grant EXP. Instead, the equivalent EXP is granted upon defeating Bosses.
Unlike in instanced duties, in the Forbidden Land, Eureka, you may form and leave parties with other players at will. You may also use the Adventurer List to seek out players close in elemental level to form parties and explore Eureka together.
* Completing Battlecraft Levequests
* Completing Guildhests
** Most Jobs also earn a one-time EXP bonus when completing a Guildhest for the first time, with the exceptions of Dancer, Gunbreaker, Sage, and Reaper.

The Forbidden Land, Eureka Anemos

Disciples of the Hand and the Land earn their EXP through crafting and gathering activities respectively. The following is a non-exhaustive list of activities that grant EXP to Disciples of the Hand and the Land:
The Forbidden Land, Eureka Pagos

* Synthesizing Recipes from the Crafting Log
The Forbidden Land, Eureka Pyros
** A one-time EXP bonus is awarded the first time a recipe is crafted.
* Gathering Items from the Gathering Log
** A one-time EXP bonus is awarded the first time an item is gathered.
* Completing Tradecraft or Fieldcraft Levequests
* Completing Class Quests
** Can only be earned once per character.
* Completing certain Challenge Log entries, once per week
* Turning in Collectables
* Participating in the Restoration of Ishgard
** Experience points are lowered to 1000 per turn-in after Level 80.
* Participating in Ocean Fishing
** This only applies to Fishers.

Bonuses to EXP
The Forbidden Land, Eureka Hydatos

Quite a number of bonuses can be applied to increase EXP earned. Most of these bonuses stack additively with one another, unless otherwise noted in the sections below.
Changing Class and Jobs
You may change between Disciple of War and Magic classes and jobs inside of each zone's starting camp.
* This includes classes and jobs that have not reached level 70.

Food Buffs
Riding Mounts
Previously, fulfilling certain requirements and completing specific quests was required to earn the ability to ride mounts in Eureka. Patch 5.1 of Shadowbringers changed it so that story completion is no longer necessary, and mounts can be ridden immediately.
* Mounts cannot fly in Eureka.
* There are no permeant speed boosts or riding maps for Eureka.

Food items can be consumed for a wide variety of buffs, as well as a 3% bonus to EXP gain for 30 minutes. The duration can be extended to 60 minutes by consuming multiple servings of the same food. This bonus applies to EXP gained from defeating enemies, synthesizing recipes, and gathering items.
Leveling
Elemental Level
Your strength in Eureka is measured in your elemental level, which may be increased by defeating various enemies and gaining elemental experience points. Your level and EXP accrued will be retained between visits—progress will not be lost when you depart Eureka. Defeating enemies in Eureka grants elemental experience points, which raise your elemental level.
* Regular experience points are not awarded in Eureka.
** Due to this, normal experience boosting effects do not work in Eureka. The only ways to increase Elemental Experience gain are Potion of Harmony, and a buff from Eureka Elementals.
* If you are partied with players 8 or more elemental levels above you, you will not gain any Elemental Experience from combat. This difference is calculated from synced elemental level.
** A difference of 6 or 7 severely cut Elemental Experience gain, but not completely.
* Additonally, if you kill mobs too many levels above your own, you will gain no Elemental Experience

Armoury Bonus
The Armoury Bonus is a bonus applied to EXP gained by Disciples of War and Magic when below the level of your highest class. The bonus is +100% for levels 1-79, reducing to +50% for levels 80-90. Despite what the in-game Active Help entry implies, this bonus does not otherwise change depending on the discrepancy between levels. This bonus applies to EXP gained from the following activities:
Penalties incurred when KO'd
When you are KO'd in the Forbidden Land, Eureka, you will lose elemental EXP. However, if you are revived by another player within ten minutes of being KO'd, you will receive no elemental EXP penalty. Furthermore, if your current elemental level is five or below, you will not lose elemental EXP when KO'd. Please be advised that, if your elemental level is eleven or higher, this penalty may reduce your elemental EXP total below zero. Should this happen, you will lose an elemental level.

* Defeating Enemies
Elemental Affinity
** This includes the EXP gained from defeating Bosses inside of Dungeons.
Magia Board , Magicite and Elemental Affinity
* Completing Battlecraft Levequests

* Completing Guildhests
The magia board enhances elemental affinity to give an advantage against enemies in Eureka.
* Participating in FATEs
* Completing Duty Roulettes, once per day
* Completing Deep Dungeons

Rested EXP
The magia board is divided into six sections, each representing a different element. Melding magicite to the board will enhance the player's affinity to a given element. Magicite is earned by progressing through the Eureka story.
Each Magicite melded to a given element increases your affinity for that element, increasing your defense against enemies of the same element, and increasing your damage against enemies 2 elements clockwise, which are indicated by the arrows on the magia board.

Rested EXP is gained by resting or logging out in areas designated as sanctuaries. Sanctuaries are typically areas around an Aetheryte as well as City-States. Sanctuary status is indicated by a crescent moon symbol to the right of the experience bar. Rested EXP provides a 50% bonus to EXP gained from defeating enemies, synthesizing recipes, and gathering items. Because of this, rested EXP is consumed as a percentage of the bar, rather than a flat amount.
Magicite can be repositioned or reset at the magia melder in each zone's starting camp, and the beginning of the Baldesian Arsenal.

The current rested bonus is displayed on top of the experience bar. The dark orange portion indicates how much EXP can be earned before the bonus fades. If the bar is blue, it indicates that the bonus will carry over to the next level. It takes 7 days to gain a full bar of rested EXP, at which point no more will be accrued.
While the magia melder is limited to a few locations, the magia board can be spun to adjust elemental affinity anywhere in Eureka. It is possible to spin the magia board using text commands.

Free Company Actions
Each spin of the magia board consumes one charge of magia aether. This gradually refills over time and can be completely restored by accessing the magia melder. Your current number of charges is shown as the centermost number on the magia board. Once the board is spin, a timer will start, indicated by a small ring around the magia aether count at the center. While this timer is active, additional spins of the magia board do not cost a charge, and reset the timer. However, bonuses applied from the current state of the magia board are not applied while the timer is active. Additional magia aether charges are regained passivley, and the progress towards the next is represented by the outermost ring of the magia board.

Special Equipment
Due to the ability of the magia board to spin, what matters most is the relative positions of the magicite to each other on the board. For example, placing 5 in fire at the magia board would allow you to at any time be fully offensively or defensively aspected via spinning. Additionally, you could place 3 in lightning and 2 in water to always recieve both a offensive and defensive edge.

Certain Equipment provides a bonus to EXP gained when worn, up to a certain level. This bonus applies to EXP gained from defeating enemies, synthesizing recipes, and gathering items. The following is a list of equipment that grants a bonus to EXP, as well as how they can be obtained:
*5 Magicite are acquired through the story in Pagos, and an additional 2 can be unlocked with sets of 3 rare notorious monster drops.
**However, even with 6 or 7 magicite, only 5 may be set to any element at a given time.

* Moogle Cap - +20% EXP, caps at level 10. Obtained by pre-ordering A Realm Reborn.
Enemy Affinity
* Helm of Light - +20% EXP, caps at level 10. Obtained by purchasing the A Realm Reborn - Collector's Edition.

* Friendship Circlet - +20% EXP, caps at level 25. Obtained by recruiting a friend, or being recruited by a friend and subscribing for at least 30 days.
Enemies encountered in the Forbidden Land, Eureka, are imbued with powers of a particular elemental affinity. To overcome these enemies, players must use the magia board in conjunction with magicite to strengthen their own elemental affinity.
* Brand-new Ring - +30% EXP, caps at level 30. Obtained by completing all of the Hall of the Novice training exercises for a single role.
* Ala Mhigan Earrings - +30% EXP, caps at level 50. Obtained by pre-ordering Stormblood.
* Aetheryte Earring - +30% EXP, caps at level 70. Obtained by pre-ordering Shadowbringers.
* Menphina's Earring - +30% EXP, caps at level 80. Obtained by pre-ordering Endwalker.

The Road to 80
The affinity of enemies is indicated by an icon to the left of their display names.

Some Worlds with low populations are occasionally designated as Preferred Worlds, providing a passive buff called The Road to 80, which applies to any Job below level 80. The Road to 80 provides a 100% bonus to all sources of EXP, calculated after applying any other bonuses. For more information about Preferred Worlds, please refer to the Play Guide entry on population balancing.
Additionally, when in Pyros and Hydatos, enemies have special attributes based on their elemental affinity:

In the Forbidden Land, Eureka, you may encounter especially powerful enemies called notorious monsters. You would do well to engage these enemies together with other adventurers if you wish to defeat them. Most notorious monsters will not spawn unless certain mobs in Eureka are slain. These mobs are generally 5 levels above the level of the notorious monster they spawn, and are near, if not inside of the notorious monster's FATE circle. Additionally, some notorious monsters require specific weather conditions to spawn.

Eureka icon2.png The Forbidden Land, Eureka is a mysterious and deadly island where the elemental forces are constantly in flux. It may be explored in parties of up to eight players, or solo. Adventurers who choose to brave the wilds of Eureka will find that their strength there is measured in their elemental level. Moreover, all equipped gear will be Item Level synced to 300.[1] Unlike instanced duties, a given zone within Eureka may be occupied by up to 144 players, with whom you may choose to cooperate if you so desire!

Requirements

Entering

Players can enter the Forbidden Lands, by speaking to the NPC Rodney in Kugane (X:8.5 Y:14.2). If entering as a party, the leader must speak to the NPC.

  • When registering to enter, all party members must be in Kugane.

  • Please note that if you enter Eureka as a member of a party, even if you leave it while within Eureka, you will be returned to the party upon exiting Eureka.

Cooperating with other adventurers

Unlike in instanced duties, in the Forbidden Land, Eureka, you may form and leave parties with other players at will. You may also use the Adventurer List to seek out players close in elemental level to form parties and explore Eureka together.

Quests

Zones

The Forbidden Land, Eureka Anemos

The Forbidden Land, Eureka Pagos

The Forbidden Land, Eureka Pyros

The Forbidden Land, Eureka Hydatos

Changing Class and Jobs

You may change between Disciple of War and Magic classes and jobs inside of each zone's starting camp.

  • This includes classes and jobs that have not reached level 70.

Riding Mounts

Previously, fulfilling certain requirements and completing specific quests was required to earn the ability to ride mounts in Eureka. Patch 5.1 of Shadowbringers changed it so that story completion is no longer necessary, and mounts can be ridden immediately.

  • Mounts cannot fly in Eureka.
  • There are no permeant speed boosts or riding maps for Eureka.

  • Regular experience points are not awarded in Eureka.
    • Due to this, normal experience boosting effects do not work in Eureka. The only ways to increase Elemental Experience gain are Potion of harmony icon1.png Potion of Harmony, and a buff from Eureka Elementals.
  • If you are partied with players 8 or more elemental levels above you, you will not gain any Elemental Experience from combat. This difference is calculated from synced elemental level.
    • A difference of 6 or 7 severely cut Elemental Experience gain, but not completely.
  • Additonally, if you kill mobs too many levels above your own, you will gain no Elemental Experience

Elemental Affinity

Magia Board , Magicite and Elemental Affinity

The Magia Board
The Magia Melder

The magia board enhances elemental affinity to give an advantage against enemies in Eureka.

The magia board is divided into six sections, each representing a different element. Melding magicite to the board will enhance the player's affinity to a given element. Magicite is earned by progressing through the Eureka story. Each Magicite melded to a given element increases your affinity for that element, increasing your defense against enemies of the same element, and increasing your damage against enemies 2 elements clockwise, which are indicated by the arrows on the magia board.[2]

Magicite can be repositioned or reset at the magia melder in each zone's starting camp, and the beginning of the Baldesian Arsenal.

While the magia melder is limited to a few locations, the magia board can be spun to adjust elemental affinity anywhere in Eureka. It is possible to spin the magia board using text commands.

  • 5 Magicite are acquired through the story in Pagos, and an additional 2 can be unlocked with sets of 3 rare notorious monster drops.
    • However, even with 6 or 7 magicite, only 5 may be set to any element at a given time.

Enemy Affinity

Eureka Anemos6.png

Enemies encountered in the Forbidden Land, Eureka, are imbued with powers of a particular elemental affinity. To overcome these enemies, players must use the magia board in conjunction with magicite to strengthen their own elemental affinity.

The affinity of enemies is indicated by an icon to the left of their display names.

Additionally, when in Pyros and Hydatos, enemies have special attributes based on their elemental affinity:

Earth element.png: Immune to Heavy/Slow
Wind element.png: Increased evasion
Water element.png: Immune to Stun
Fire element.png: Increased attack
Lightning element.png: Immune to Paralysis
Ice element.png: Increased HP

Rewards

Rewards Obtained From Combat

When you defeat enemies in battle, you may receive a variety of rewards. Among these possible rewards are Protean Crystals, which may be used to strengthen and enhance Eureka gear.

Specific items are required to enhance Eureka gear.

The quantity and frequency with which protean crystals can be obtained will increase with the elemental level of enemies, the greatest yields coming from those at level 20 or above.

Eureka Anemos8.png

Chains

Upon defeating an enemy of equal or greater elemental level, you will have a limited window in which you may attempt to defeat another. If successful, you will initiate a chain. Defeating subsequent enemies while a chain is active will earn you additional elemental EXP. You will also have an increased chance to receive rewards while above chain 10 and 20. Additionally, kills that give chain 10, 20, or 30, are even more likely to give rewards, and have the potential for additional rewards. After EXP chain 30 is achieved, your chain will end.

Notorious Monsters

Eureka anemos2.jpg

In the Forbidden Land, Eureka, you may encounter especially powerful enemies called notorious monsters. You would do well to engage these enemies together with other adventurers if you wish to defeat them. Most notorious monsters will not spawn unless certain mobs in Eureka are slain. These mobs are generally 5 levels above the level of the notorious monster they spawn, and are near, if not inside of the notorious monster's FATE circle. Additionally, some notorious monsters require specific weather conditions to spawn.

Each notorious monster fought will grant a number of the zone's respective crystals, i.e. Pagos crystal icon1.pngPagos Crystal, and each zone's respective lockbox. Some notorious monsters have exclusive drops, such as minions, armor, or rare components for adding additional magicite to the magia board.

Logos

TODO - This will be transposed onto the current logos explanation on the pyros page, as that is severely lacking

Notes

  1. There is, however, a different statistic that can increase gear power in Eureka: Elemental Bonus
  2. Elemental Bonus from armor is unaffected by the bonus to elemental affinity from the magia board, and instead applies a flat bonus to all elements.
