Through Yanxia flows the One River, upon whose shores the city-state of Doma has been built. Having fallen to Garlean rule, the nation's once proud and mighty Doma Castle is now occupied by the imperial viceroy and her host of brutish men. Citizens here struggle to eke out a living in the face of oppression, which comes in the form of punishing taxes and grueling physical labor.

Lore

The defining feature of this area within central Othard is the One River, and since antiquity, the people of the plains have built settlements along its fertile shores. So prized were these lands that ancient clans were locked in a constant struggle to control them.

The Gensui Chain

The undulating hills of the eastern shore are especially suited to rice cultivation, hence the proliferation of terraces. Its name is derived from an old Doman word for alcohol, as the spirits fermented and distilled from rice grown here have a reputation for surpassing quality. In a contrast to some other farming communities, locals have a custom of eating three meals a day rather than two, and take pride in this excess as proof of their abundance.

The Drunken Toad

A hovel home to Sentei Suishu and his wife Kohagi, the Toad was built with materials scavenged from a riverboat which once carried rice and spirits for a local lord. For a time, the vessel was also used to ferry passengers through Garlean checkpoints, as well as for fishing. However, Sentei chose to honor its original purpose by retaining its name, even if it no longer traverses the waters of the One River.

Unseen Spirits Laughing

Travelers are advised to proceed with caution when visiting this corner of Yanxia littered with boulders and rocks, as it is often shrouded in mist, and a careless step could send one tumbling. The name is taken from a Doman proverb often used in reference to games of chance, in which one is cautioned to think before they act, lest the kami delight in their misfortune.

The Heron’s Flight

This small waterfall which flows into the Heron’s Way is vital for the irrigation of terraces as well as rice wine production. As the name suggests, herons can be seen in abundance nearby.

Namai

A village situated amidst the mountains of the Gensui Chain, named with the local word for the aquatic arrowhead plant, an allusion to its long history in rice farming. The arrival of the Empire placed this lifestyle under siege, but through perseverance the villagers continue to hold on to their ways.

Plum Spring

High in the mountains to the east of Namai, this spring was named for its most striking feature, the many plum trees which can be found growing throughout. A local legend tells of a wizened sage who resides there, but those few who claim to have seen him are rarely believed.

The Glittering Basin

As the One River winds its way towards the Ruby Sea, it delivers silt rich in nutrients to the lands along its shores. Much is deposited on the islands of the Glittering Basin, as well as the shoals which join them to the banks. Various settlements dot the lands, as well as wreckage from some of the most intense battles fought during the rebellion of yesteryear.

Kusakari

Named for the clan which founded it, Kusakari was a village razed to the ground during the Garlean occupation. Though ostensibly still abandoned, refugees have been known to take shelter in the remaining structures, albeit secretly.

Eastern Ryurin Bridge

One of two bridges which once connected the islands of the Glittering Basin, it takes its name from a legend in which Seiryu, one of the Four Lords, shed several scales above Yanxia, and from them all manner of plants and animals arose.

Western Ryurin Bridge

A bridge which joined the central isle of the Glittering Basin to the western one, upon which Yuzuka Manor can be found. Destroyed during the occupation, it has yet to be rebuilt, as the bulk of Doma’s resources are currently devoted to the reconstruction of the enclave.

Castrum Fluminis

Established twenty-five years ago as an advance post for the invasion of Doma, the castrum served for a time afterwards as an administrative center for the imperial occupation. As repairs on Doma Castle progressed, its occupants relocated to the city, abandoning it to nature.

Yuzuka Manor

For generations, the lords of the Yuzuka clan faithfully served the Doman monarchy as governors of One River settlements, and this was their dwelling. Razed during the rebellion, it has since seen a clan of Namazu take up residence.

The Swallow’s Compass

Enshrined within this tomb, his likeness carved on an imposing scale into the cliffside, is Ganen, the great general who united the warring clans of Yanxia to arise as the first king of Doma. A skilled swordsman and mage both, he is credited as the founding father of Doman geomancy.

The Dairyu Moon Gates

Built into natural rock with openings fashioned in the shape of a full moon, this series of colossal portals regulates traffic upon the One River. The Empire, desiring to exert greater control, further added magitek field generators.

Imperial Hypersonic Assault Craft L-XXIII

The letters emblazoned upon its rusted fuselage mark it as the 23rd craft of the XIth Imperial Legion. Dispatched to Doma in a bid to suppress the rebellion, witnesses say it was brought down by the vulpine guardian of Yanxia, to sink to its watery grave at the bottom of the One River.

Valley of the Fallen Rainbow

The abundance of aether in this northern valley of Yanxia has likely facilitated the formation of the crystalline structures which can be found throughout, as well as influenced the development of flora and fauna—some of which has no compunctions in attacking weary travelers.

The House of the Fierce

Once serving as a spiritual retreat for those seeking to escape the mundane concerns of the material world, then as safe haven for refugees and those fleeing imperial pursuers, these caves would become the headquarters of the Doman Liberation Front. A secret underwater passage affords access to eastern Yanxia via a lake near Namai.

Prism Lake

An enigmatic lake carved out in steps, whose waters have taken on the colors of the rainbow. Scholars attribute its beautiful coloration to the rich and exposed deposits of high-purity crystals in the area, while legend tells of an angelic being, who fashioned a bridge of rainbow for her mortal lover.

The Ribbons

In a meditation on serenity, a famed Doman poet once described the view from beneath this willow tree as “golden ribbons in twilight.”

Doma

More accurately described as the area once considered the heart of the kingdom, this region includes both the castle and the ruined settlement of Monzen, which was razed by warmachina on the orders of then viceroy Yotsuyu goe Brutus.

Doma Castle

The seat of power in the nation of Doma, whose dominion encompassed the entirety of Yanxia. The crag-top site was chosen in order to control the One River, an artery of trade and transport and a vital source of water in the region. Under imperial rule, it was made into a viceroyalty and its military capabilities were greatly expanded.

The Coattails

Centuries ago, during a famine brought on by a prolonged drought, a farmer came to entreat the lord of Doma that he might help his people, but was turned away at the castle gates. Undeterred, he sat upon the bridge, unmoving, until the king ventured outside on official business. As he passed, the farmer caught hold of his coattails—a brazen act punishable by death. However, the king was moved by the man’s heartfelt pleas, and not only spared his life, but opened the castle’s stores of rice to feed the starving smallfolk. In that farmer’s honor, the bridge was given its name to remind others to be brave and not fear reprisal if they believe their cause is just.

Monzen

Once home to the samurai elite who served the Rijin, Yotsuyu goe Brutus decreed that Monzen would be razed to the ground as an example not only to the people of Doma but those in other provinces.

Mercantile Docks

After Monzen was destroyed following the failed uprising of yesteryear, the docks to its south fell into disrepair, as there are no nearby settlements which may benefit from their use.

The Dragon's Struggle

According to legend, this great cataract was created by Seiryu of the Four Lords, who in his many visits to Yanxia drank deep of the One River, and in so doing reshaped its course.

The Sons and Daughters of Yanxia

Upon crossing the Ruby Sea, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn were greeted with the sight of a verdant region nourished by the One River—Yanxia. Here they would meet folk of all walks of life, yet all shared the yoke of imperial oppression that had strangled these lands for twenty-five long years.
