Quests are identified by icons over NPCs heads.

Quests are tasks offered by the citizens of Eorzea. Each task has a different goal such as talking to various NPCs, collecting items, killing creatures, and other more involved missions. Players can complete quests to earn story progression, experience, gil, items and other unlocks.

Overview

Quests encompass short objectives, or a series of objectives, performed at the request of an NPC. Quests do not need to be completed immediately upon acceptance. Upon completion, the player will receive a rewards, typically including experience points, gil and/or items. They can be loosely divided into the following subcategories.

Main Scenario Quest icon.png Main Scenario Quests

Main scenario quests consist of quests that form the main storyline of Final Fantasy XIV. These quests not only have cutscenes and voice acting but also unlock important aspects of the game. Players unlock the airship at level 15, personal chocobo and Grand Company at level 20, and the jobs ability at level 30 through the progression of the main quest line.

The main scenario quests each start off with their own branch for each starting city but eventually converge into one quest line after selecting a Grand Company. The starting quests for each city are Coming to Gridania, Coming to Limsa Lominsa, and Coming to Ul'dah.

Chronologically the Main Scenario Quests are divided as follows:
