The general of the [[Gridania]]n forces, [[Vainchelon Whitewater]], met '''Gylbarde''' in combat in the '''Battle of Firesand Banks'''. Though he battled hard, the skirmish was inconclusive. '''Vainchelon''' retreated, hoping to lure '''Gylbarde''' into a trap, but died of illness shortly thereafter.

'''Gylbarde''' repelled a frontal assault against his forces from [[Commander Osbern]], and pushed the '''Gridanians''' back and prepared to advance. The plan may have worked, however his troops were routed by a newly formed [[Eorzean Alliance]], and he was thoroughly defeated.
