Patch 7.2 Special Site

Cosmic exploration art.jpg

Cosmic Exploration is an upcoming "lifestyle content" set to release in patch 7.21 during the Dawntrail expansion. Unlike Island Sanctuary, there will be a greater emphasis on multiplayer activities in a similar vein as Ishgardian Restoration.

Players will be able to explore and develop the surfaces of different planets by working with the Loporrits. New planets will be implemented with later patches. The first planet is the surface of the moon, where the goal is to build a spaceship launch station to explore other planets.

The content is designed for crafters and gatherers. The level 100 series of Relic Tools: Cosmic Tools, is tied to Cosmic Exploration.

Unlock

To unlock Cosmic Exploration, players must complete the quest Feature Quest??? which requires completion of Main Scenario QuestEndwalker and a level 10 or higher Disciple of the Hand or Land.

Zones

  1. Moon
  2. ??? (patch 7.3x)
  3. ??? (patch 7.4x)
  4. ??? (patch 7.5x)

Zones are non-instanced areas consisting of a base camp and an area for gathering resources. Players may only enter Cosmic Exploration zones in their home server, and development of each planet is server-specific.

Interface

Players will have access to a tablet interface that provides a list of options and tracks how much Cosmic Exploration currency the player has. This is similar to the Islekeep's Index in Island Sanctuary.

There is a separate inventory for Cosmic Exploration items.

Missions

Cosmo Missions

Cosmo Missions are tasks that players can complete to earn currency, experience, and develop the planet. These are generally solo content and may consist of activities such as gathering specific items.

Critical Missions

Critical Missions are special missions that provide extra rewards. These may be associated with specific weather events. A gauge at the top of the screen tracks progress in these.

Mech Ops

Players may apply to be be mech pilots during these missions. Doing so requires purchasing tickets with "Moon Credit" (tentative name) currency. Only a limited number of players will be chosen; players who are not chosen will have an increased chance to be selected in future missions.

Mech Op missions are large-scale missions that involve both the pilot players and ground support players. The two groups coordinate to gather materials and remove obstacles.

Star Contributor Awards

Every other day, Scanningway will tally each player's contribution to Cosmic Exploration per server. The "tally period" lasts 24 hours, followed by a rest period of another 24 hours. The daily reset is 18:00 JST / 2:00 PDT / 9:00 GMT / 20:00 AEDT.

Completing Cosmic Exploration activites during a tally period will increase your level of contribution regardless of the class used. The player who contributed the most during the 24-hour period will be rewarded with the Star Contributor status immediately following the rest period. Players may review their contribution level by speaking with Scanningway.

Star Contributors will receive the following recognition:

  • A hologram of them will be projected within base camps.
  • Their name will be displayed on the bulletin board within base camps.
  • A visual effect will be applied to them when they are in a Cosmic Exploration zone. They can click off this buff if they do not want it displayed.

Players who receive Star Contributor will be ineligible to receive it again for 14 days.

In contrast to the limited-time ranking titles in Ishgardian Restoration, Star Contributor is a permanent competitive feature to prevent "fear of missing out".

Cosmic Tools

By crafting or gathering specific items tied to Cosmic Exploration, players will be able to upgrade Cosmic Tools, the level 100 Relic Tool series.
