Thus when Lyse and Meffrid first came to his settlement to recruit soldiers, Wiscar refused their entreaties. He was soon forced to rethink his stance, however, after a complete stranger rescued one of his fellow villagers—a man Wiscar had given up for dead. He would later enlist as a soldier of the Resistance, and learn basic swordsmanship from Meffrid.
