"The war with Dravania rages on, brutal and unrelenting. With no end in sight, the Holy See grows desperate. As her dragoons lay down their lives in defense of their home, Ishgard turns to technology to protect her sons and daughters. Great cannons and ballistae now line the city walls, plucking dragons from the sky.
Following the example of Cid Garlond, who has demonstrated the potency of magitek, the Skysteel Manufactory works tirelessly on the development of advanced armaments. As new and devastating weapons are brought to the fray, a new class of champion arises to wield them―the machinist." — Game Description
Machinist is a ranged DPS job introduced in 2014 Fan Fest in Tokyo. Machinist is the gun-wielding job scheduled to be released in Heavensward. Unlike 2.0 jobs, Machinist does not require a base class and starts from level 30. The job's main weapon is the Firearm. Machinist will use specialized mechanical equipment such as attachments to the firearm along with deploy-able turrets.
Using deployable turrets, Machinist can perform a support style role in addition to the DPS role. The turrets can attack enemies, debuff enemies or buff allies.
When using attachments on his gun, Machinist increases his DPS and transforms his weapon to something similar to a cannon. He will charge up before an attack and movement will cancel the attack and reset the charge. If you need to be constantly on the move, don't use attachments. Gun actions require a stacking gunpowder(or ammo) buff. Learning when to reload will be an important skill.
Machinist will have cross-class abilities from Archer and Lancer.
Requirement
- Heavensward
- Access to Ishgard, where Machinist's Guild is located.
Actions
Details of some of Machinist's abilities were announced during the Letter from the Producer LIVE XXI:
Machinist's role is similar to bard. However, the play style and the awareness for the job will greatly differ. Their major speciality is to use a buff called ammunition, and by using stacks of these it’ll add various additional effects to the weapon skills.
- Reload
By using this, you can reload five stacks of ammunition. Not only will you reload when you use up all the stacks of ammunition, but you can reload when not out of any ammunition to increase the damage efficiency. Additionally, there is an action called Quick Reload which will instantly load one ammunition for use in dire situations, so use these utilities to manage the amount of ammunition you have.
Weapon skills work a bit differently. There are weapon skill combination where you use shot 1, shot 2, and shot 3, but using shot 1 gives a 50% chance of boost to shot 2, and another 50% chance to boost shot 3. By using ammunitions you can make sure the boost procs. Furthermore, machinist has many unique actions, such as Wildfire which charges the damage and attacks at once, and turrets which will affect party members in range.
