In regards to that example you've put that is bad anyway - the purchase from section just has the generic merchant and mender which leads to the page which lists them all for every area which it shouldn't - it should be linked to for example Merchant and Mender (Costa del Sol). The normal rule of thumb for vendor pages is: Merchant and Mender (zone), however if you have more than 1 merchant and mender in a zone, then its: Merchant and Mender (area) so for example in Lakeland ... you can't have Merchant and Mender (Lakeland) ... because there are 4 vendors selling identical inventories - you have Merchant and Mender (Fort Jobb). Thanks for the reply! I'm trying to last-minute grind some 60s before Garo ends, or I'd prob do some more.  What actually triggered me to start these changes was GC turn-ins.
As a relatively new player, I've decided to chip away at the long-term GC turn-ins achievements before changing GC.  After realizing I need pure quantity over quality, I'm purposely keeping some of my crafting levels low-ish to allow for some vendor-bought items.  And that's when something like Initiate's Awl 's vendor list finally triggered me enough to fix it =)  Icy` (talk) 15:34, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
So is the new template the reddish one "Weapon infobox" (lowercase i) ? I'd just delete "Weapon Infobox" (capital I) if possible to not confuse future editors.  What's the worst that could happen ;D  Btw, I also wanted to mention that secondary weapons in the "Weapon infobox" template erroneously have text for Auto-Attack, Delay, DPS, etc. as in the case of the Awl there.  Combat secondaries in-game also dont have this info. So if you know how to fix this template (it looks like a giant jumble for me atm -- recommendation on wiki template syntax editor? ;D), please go for it!  Icy` (talk)
Yeah most newer templates are lowercase ones - if you look at the Final Fantasy XIV Wiki:Style manual then scroll to the bottom you'll see all current templates in use. Unfortunately we can't delete the old template as pages still use it - until we convert every single old page to the new page we can't remove the template. If you want to see that you can go to the Page information link on the left when your on the template page and it'll show you how many pages its 'transcluded' on - for example: Template:Weapon Infobox is still used by 3000+ pages. Regarding secondary weapon - if it doesn't have a stat then idea is to leave it blank. It might look odd but with primary and secondary weapons sharing a template that's the result. Is this bloating the page?  Does it need to be broken off into its own page? Glotos (talk) 19:19, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Latest revision as of 19:45, 14 December 2023

Would it be possible to add a forum to the Wiki? It would be nice to have a place to chat with other editors, discuss ideas for layout changes, and even help new editors who may have questions.

Dead links

Lots of dead links to creature pages and some low-level dungeon bosses. Looks like a lot of these boss pages are stubs as well. Should we link the boss pages to the dungeons or include strategies on the boss pages themselves? Digital Squid (talk) 19:45, 19 March 2015 (PDT)

I'm going to link the boss pages to the dungeons. -Moogle (talk) 16:44, 20 March 2015 (PDT)

Sources

I'm relatively new to wiki work, and I wanted to check - what are our guidelines regarding sources? For example, Garland Tools has some great information (GC quartermaster inventory, airship expedition rewards, etc) that are all datamined, and aren't in Libra Eorzea or other SE products. Are those useable as sources? With attribution, perhaps? What sources are openly permissible? Skald359 (talk) 13:29, 1 December 2015 (PST)

Well, I don't know how to edit things, but I have some pictures for Squadrons

Ceilia, Female Hyur Unique Clothed

Raiden, Male Au Unique Clothed

Patch Notes

Are there any plans to add patch notes to the site / updates when things change. Like what they do on the POE wiki? For example http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Fireball#Version_history

Forum or Discord?

I see that last topic, posted in 2014. Does this wiki have a forum or Discord that I'm just not seeing? It would be nice to have a place to talk to other editors, share ideas, and collaborate on bigger projects for the wiki. Otherwise I'll just contribute as much as I can and hope I don't muddle someone else's research.

Role Actions

A huge change in 4.0 is the move from Cross-Class Actions to Role Actions. While the main Class pages have the new Role Actions, each Action's page has old info especially the footer which should get a Role Action section if it's in one. E.g., Apocatastasis & Manawall: the former is now a DPS Roll Action and has little to do with THM & BLM. With the latter, does Manawall even exist now?

Lastly, some Class/Job Actions have been moved to Role Actions and the old sections should be updated, e.g., Black Mage's Apocatastasis was listed in both Actions and Role Actions. Same with Conjurer's Protect which even has an increase in level requirement (as my wife noticed when she could no longer cast it after 4.0).

Anyway, I'll do my best to help but wanted to let someone know what I've been thinking.

A Way to Reverse-Link Which Vendors Sell Item X?

Was wondering if there was simply some script you could run on all the vendors which then updates all its sold items pages? The items would then append to their "Purchased From" section to link to that vendor along with exact coordinates and price. A reader would then not have to click away from the item page to be able to find it.

Let me explain why the current (low-level items, etc) have some problems. These items' pages tend to link to a list of all similarly named vendors like Merchant & Mender, Junkmonger, etc., and often there could be several identically named in the same zone! It takes a while to figure out which vendor to go to, after trial+error clicking on the various ones in the list.

Problematic example from the Siltstone Grinding Wheel page:

Purchased From
You click on Eastern La Noscea one, and to your horror there are about four Merchant & Menders in Eastern La Noscea, so you click through each one...

Ok, after some time I'm starting to understand how to do it -- there are good/useful templates and there are bad ones =)

 1. Update shop to use "NPC infobox" template with "service = merchant". I fixed Arms Supplier & Mender
 2. Update shop to use "vendor table" template. I partially fixed the items from above merchant.
 3. Update the item to use "Weapon infobox", "item infobox" and similar templates. This will help the icons and levels in the vendor table.
 4. Update the item to use "vendor list" template. Example that I just fixed: Initiate's Awl. Currently 2 out of 4 of the vendors for this item are auto-generated.

Yeah you are write on the above ... I've been slowly doing it but I've been working backwards from Shadowbringers - only because all new items/weapons etc added were on the new templates so adding the vendor list to the item, and the vendor header to the vendor was quick. I've managed to do about half of Shadowbringers vendors, working my way through the rest this weekend hopefully. I did plan to start with ARR first but when I saw all the items/weapons were on the old templates I knew it would take longer. Another thing to add is that what's on the wiki compared to the actual vendor may differ - I've actually been visiting the vendor in-game and comparing the two - not may differences but I have found a few that were incorrect or items are no longer for sale from a particular vendor.
