It was this hard-hearted attitude that allowed him to survive whilst other Ala Mhigans his age were hanging on the Griffin's every word and volunteering for missions from which none would return. Thus when [[Lyse]] and [[Meffrid]] first came to his settlement to recruit soldiers, Wiscar refused their entreaties. He was soon forced to rethink his stance, however, after a complete stranger rescued one of his fellow villagers—a man Wiscar had given up for dead. He would later enlist as a soldier of the Resistance, and learn basic swordsmanship from Meffrid.
