The purpose of this page, and all of the gear guides, is to assist freshly leveled players in knowing which gear they should be spending their currencies on.

Item Level (IL) of an item determines that item's quality. An item with higher IL will nearly always be better than an item with lower IL.

New players should directly purchase Augmented Ironworks Weapons and Gear, giving IL 130, with Allagan Tomestone of PoeticsAllagan Tomestones of Poetics. This gear is bolded in the tables below.
Augmented Ironworks equipment can be purchased from Auriana in Mor Dhona (X:22.7 Y:6.7) upon reaching level 50. Additionally, Sundry Splendors.png Rowena's Representatives (Sundry Splendors) appear by the main aetherytes in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks, New Gridania, and Ul'dah - Steps of Nald after completing Main Scenario QuestThe Ultimate Weapon. They should also obtain the Neophytes ring icon1.png  Neophyte's Ring from completing the Hall of the Novice tactical training exercises, which boosts EXP until level 60.
Prior to obtaining enough Poetics to purchase IL 130 gear, new players should complete their level 50 job quest to receive a coffer containing IL 90 armor.

Alternatively, ABasic-rarity crafted gear made with Heavensward materials was added as "catch-up gear." These can be bought HQ HQ icon.png off the Market Board, giving IL 115, with Gil Gil. This gear is italicised in the tables below.

At level 50, purchasable secondary tools are low Item Level and gathering armor is largely unavailable for purchase. It is recommended to instead craft HQ icon.png HQ ABasic-rarity Heavensward leveling gear for those slots.

Primary Tools

When leveling, it is preferred to use the IL 55 Mastercraft Tools until the next round of major gear updates at lv 63, assuming one is using the Ishgardian Restoration as the primary leveling method. Higher IL, level 50 tools, are not worth the increase in stats for the effort they require to obtain. [1]
