The First Umbral Calamity, also known as the Calamity of Wind, is agreed upon by scholars and biologists alike to be the beginning of recorded history on Hydaelyn. It was followed by the First Umbral Era, which preceded the rise of man during the First Astral Era.[1]
Causes
According to popular Eorzean creation myth, preceding this Era was the Age of the Twelve, when gods and goddesses were said to walk the land. When the Twelve were finally finished creating the world, their departure from the realm is said to be the cause of this Calamity.
Summary of Events
Very little remains of the world from this time; terrible storms and hurricanes most likely ravaged the lands, rending stone and shredding any who were caught in the gales. The Moogles of Moghome speak of wind-driven disasters during this period, acting as further evidence to this theory. Additionally, the Twelveswood Moogles, within their mythology of Good King Moggle Mog XII, describe a war between the gods during which "the vault of the sky" began to shudder.
