“One of the seven great wyrms and leader of the Dravanian Horde, Nidhogg and his minions tormented the Holy See for a thousand years in the bloody conflict known as the Dragonsong War. Despite losing his eyes, the source of a dragon's might, he still possessed ample strength to easily destroy Ishgard. That he refrained from the act was solely because he craved not the enemy’s destruction, but their eternal punishment. In a twist of irony, however, he would be undone by his own eye, borne by the Azure Dragoon Estinien, who stormed the Aery with the Warrior of Light at his side. At the end of a ferocious struggle, the dread wyrm was laid low, vanishing from sight into the depths of the Churning Mists.

Lore
“One amongst the seven great wyrms, Nidhogg is evil incarnate—the selfsame abomination who mercilessly slew the beloved King Thordan I, father of the Holy See...or at least according to the Enchiridion and the teachings of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church. However, this history conceals Nidhogg’s hunger to avenge the murder of his brood-sister, Ratatoskr. Over the past millennium, he has awakened on eight occasions, and each time the Holy See has tasted his murderous wrath. The dragon was slain in the Aery by the Warrior of Light and Estinien, the Azure Dragoon. However, within the boundless aether of his eyes, Nidhogg’s hatred lived on, and seized control of Estinien’s flesh so as to fight to the bitter end.

"Wicked mortals! I shall melt your flesh, and turn your bones to ash!"
One amongst the seven great wyrms, Nidhogg is evil incarnate—the selfsame abomination who mercilessly slew the beloved King Thordan I, father of the Holy See...or at least according to the Enchiridion and the teachings of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church.
One of the great seven wyrms born of Midgardsormr.
He is said to have terrorized Coerthas since Ishgard's founding, spreading death and destruction for the past thousand years.
History speaks most notably of his clash with King Thordan I. Though the battle cost the lives of the king and many of his men, Nidhogg would not escape unscathed. The hero Haldrath plucked from his skull a trophy-a treasure simply know as "the Eye."
This relic of unimaginable power remains sealed deep within the vaults of Ishgard.
