General Gylbarde was a general under King Manfred of Ala Mhigo. During the Autumn War, Gylbarde led the Ala Mhigan forces into [{Gridania]] in an attempt to lay claim to the land for their king. The general of the Gridanian forces, Vainchelon Whitewater, met Gylbarde in combat in the Battle of Firesand Banks. Though he battled hard, the skirmish was inconclusive. Vainchelon retreated, hoping to lure Gylbarde into a trap, but died of illness shortly thereafter.
Gylbarde repelled a frontal assault against his forces from Commander Osbern, and pushed the Gridanians back and prepared to advance. The plan may have worked, however his troops were routed by a newly formed Eorzean Alliance, and he was thoroughly defeated.
