Elemental Gauge is Black Mage's Job Gauge.
Elemental Gauge in PvE
The Elemental Gauge indicates whether you are under the effect of Astral Fire (after casting a Fire spell) or Umbral Ice (after casting a Blizzard spell). While under the effect of Astral Fire, all Fire spells will have increased potency, but require more MP to cast. While under the influence of Umbral Ice, you will have significantly increased MP recovery.
Executing the action Enochian while under the effect of Astral Fire or Umbral Ice will set the lower-right corner of the Elemental Gauge aglow, indicating its effect is active. Enochian increases the potency of spells, as well as unlocks powerful spells such as Blizzard IV. Enochian fades when Astral Fire or Umbral Ice expires.
Casting Blizzard IV grants three Umbral Hearts which are represented by arrows in the Elemental Gauge's lower-left corner. An Umbral Heart is consumed each time a Fire spell is cast, nullifying the MP cost increase applied by Astral Fire.
Upon learning the trait Enhanced Enochian, you will be granted Polyglot after maintaining Enochian for 30 seconds, represented by crystals at the bottom of the Elemental Gauge.
Upon learning the trait Enhanced Polyglot, you will be able to stack a second Polyglot.
Elemental Gauge in PvP
The Elemental Gauge displays several different pieces of information vital to black mages, first and foremost being whether or not they are under the influence of Astral Fire (after casting a Fire spell) or Umbral Ice (after casting a Blizzard spell). All Fire spells cast while under the influence of Astral Fire will have increased potency, but will require more MP. This is the same for Blizzard spells cast while under the influence of Umbral Ice. Umbral Ice also increases the speed with which MP regenerates.
If a black mage uses Enochian while under the influence of Astral Fire or Umbral Ice, they will be able to use either Fire IV or Blizzard IV. 30 seconds after using Enochian, black mages are able to use Foul. This then enables them to use either Flare or Freeze. The crystal beneath the Elemental Gauge will light up every 30 seconds when Foul can be used.
